Microsoft Fixes Windows 10 Shutdown Bug in Cumulative Update KB4501375

Postby pattytor » Sun Jun 30, 2019 10:11 pm

Earlier this week, Microsoft acknowledged a new bug in Windows 10, explaining that devices where USB Type-C peripherals are plugged and unplugged during the power transition could experience a shutdown delay.

Microsoft originally confirmed the bug in Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), but the same issue also existed on Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019 Update).

“A bug in the USB Type-C Connector System Software Interface (UCSI) software implementation in Windows 10, version 1809 can cause a 60 second delay in the system sleep or shutdown process if the power-down happens while the UCSI software is busy handling a new connect or disconnect event on a USB Type-C port,” Microsoft said.

No fix for Windows 10 version 1809
The latest cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903, however, resolves this bug, Microsoft now says.

The most recent update for the May update is KB4501375, and it was published on June 27.

“This is resolved in Windows 10 version 1903, please update to the latest released build if you are impacted by this bug,” the software giant notes. https://www.xing.com/communities/posts/ ... 1016511346

On the other hand, a fix for Windows 10 version 1809 isn’t yet available, and the company hasn’t provided any specifics as to when we can expect a patch for the October update as well. https://www.xing.com/communities/posts/ ... 1016514115

In other words, if you’re running Windows 10 October 2018 Update, you won’t be getting a fix just yet, so if you want to resolve this issue, the only option is to update to version 1903.

Microsoft says that leaving aside the shutdown delay, no other issues should be caused by this bug, as all USB Type-C devices should continue to work just as expected when you reboot the device. https://www.xing.com/communities/posts/ ... 1016514193

A new round of cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions is due on July 9 as part of the next month’s Patch Tuesday rollout.
